Paris Saint-Germain secured an impressive 4-2 victory over Manchester City in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, overcoming Erling Haaland’s second-half brace to claim all three points.
PSG dominated the opening period, racing into a three-goal lead through Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha before City mounted a second-half response.
Doué opened the scoring in the 13th minute, cutting inside from the right before beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low finish. Two minutes later, Dembélé doubled the advantage, heading home after Doué helped redirect the ball across the penalty area.
Vitinha made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute, leaving City with a mountain to climb before the break.
Pep Guardiola’s side responded after half-time, with Haaland reducing the deficit in the 53rd minute. The Norwegian striker struck again in the 75th minute, raising hopes of a dramatic comeback.
However, Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s three-goal cushion in the 62nd minute, according to the match report, putting the visitors back in control.
City had another opportunity to reduce the deficit late on after Matheus Nunes made contact with Nuno Mendes inside the penalty area. Ferran Torres took the resulting spot-kick in the 90th minute, but Donnarumma saved his effort to preserve PSG’s advantage.
The victory capped a commanding performance by the French side, whose attacking quality proved decisive despite City’s second-half fightback.
Haaland’s double offered City a lifeline, but PSG’s clinical finishing and Donnarumma’s late penalty save ensured the visitors left Manchester with a memorable Champions League win.
