Kylian Mbappé has become the youngest player to make 100 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing Lionel Messi’s previous record at the age of 27 years and 298 days.
The Real Madrid forward reached the milestone on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, when he featured against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy.
Mbappé marked the occasion by scoring Madrid’s equaliser in the first half as the Spanish giants recovered from a two-goal deficit to secure a dramatic 4-3 victory.
According to UEFA, Messi previously held the record after reaching 100 Champions League appearances at 28 years and 84 days during Barcelona’s match against Roma on September 16, 2015.
Mbappé made his Champions League debut with Monaco in September 2016 at just 17 years old. He has since established himself among the competition’s leading performers, combining prolific goalscoring with consistent appearances at Europe’s highest club level.
The French captain also finished as the Champions League’s leading scorer last season with 15 goals. His campaign included a remarkable hat-trick against Olympiacos, when he scored three times in six minutes and 42 seconds.
Mbappé is the fifth French player to reach 100 appearances in the competition. His Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois became the first Belgian to achieve the milestone earlier this season.
Other players who reached the century mark during the 2025/26 campaign include Bernardo Silva, Joshua Kimmich, Jan Oblak and Nicolás Otamendi.
Real Madrid legend Raúl González was the first player to reach 100 Champions League appearances, achieving the feat in February 2006.
Mbappé’s latest achievement further strengthens his standing among the modern era’s elite footballers.
