OpenAI has accused a former employee who joined Apple of transferring more than 100 confidential files related to an unreleased device to a personal account and later presenting information about the product to senior Apple executives, according to a new court filing.
The allegations, submitted in a US federal court in California, include claims that the files contained device images, engineering and manufacturing data, supplier information and technical project documents. OpenAI expressed concern that the information could influence Apple’s development of future AI-powered products.
Apple rejected the suggestion that it had improperly used confidential information, saying it has procedures designed to prevent new employees from bringing trade secrets from previous employers. The company also said it had found no evidence supporting OpenAI’s allegations.
The dispute is part of a broader legal battle that began after Apple accused OpenAI of benefiting from confidential information allegedly taken by former Apple employees. OpenAI has denied those claims, and the latest allegations deepen tensions between the two companies as both expand their ambitions in AI hardware.
The claims have not been established in court, and the case remains ongoing.
