Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare has declared Ajax’s ambition to win every competition they enter as he continues to impress during his loan spell with the Dutch giants.
The 25-year-old scored his seventh goal for Ajax in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen, taking his tally to four league goals and three in the UEFA Conference League after featuring in 10 competitive matches.
Arokodare joined Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan in July, with the Dutch club retaining an option to make the move permanent.
Speaking in an interview with Footy-Africa, the striker expressed satisfaction with his experience in Amsterdam, praising the club, his teammates, the supporters and the Dutch style of football.
“It has been lovely; it has been amazing. The Dutch people have been amazing so far. My teammates have been great. The club has been outstanding. I love the people. I love the style of football. I love the fans so much,” he said.
He added that the supporters had made him feel welcome both on and off the pitch, including through their messages of encouragement.
Arokodare also made Ajax’s expectations clear, insisting that the club’s reputation demands success across all competitions.
“We are going to try to win everything that is there to win, in every competition we are participating in. We are Ajax, so we always want to be the best, be number one,” he said.
His productive start represents a promising chapter following a difficult spell at Wolves, where he scored three Premier League goals after joining from Belgian side Genk.
At Ajax, the Nigerian’s physical strength, aerial ability and capacity to hold up the ball have added another dimension to the team’s attack.
With his goals already making an impact, Arokodare will hope to maintain his form and help Ajax compete for silverware this season.
