The Adamawa State Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry has given traders operating at the temporary Yola South Market until Monday, October 19, 2026, to relocate to the new Modern Modibbo Adama Market.
The directive followed an emergency meeting convened to coordinate the relocation exercise and ensure the smooth commencement of business activities at the new market, according to a report by Sammeni Kamsobbi.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Joab Haggai Sahma, directed that business activities at the new market begin immediately, with operations scheduled to commence on October 12. He stressed that the relocation was necessary to provide traders with a permanent trading location and enable the market to serve its intended purpose.
Sahma warned that the ministry would not permit traders to continue operating at the temporary site after the deadline. He urged the Market Operations Committee and other stakeholders to ensure full compliance and facilitate an orderly transition.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Adamu Buba, called for collective efforts to implement the directive effectively. The meeting also featured discussions on security, coordination and strategies for a smooth relocation process.
The meeting was attended by the Yola South Local Government vice chairperson, ministry officials, security agencies, traders’ union representatives and market leaders, among others.
