The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board has temporarily shut down nine private schools for failing to comply with registration revalidation and recertification requirements.
The board’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, announced the decision during a media briefing in Kano on Monday, October 12, explaining that the affected institutions had failed to regularise their operations despite repeated notices and directives.
The schools are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shula Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.
Umar disclosed that the board had identified 111 schools allegedly bypassing regulatory procedures. He said the nine institutions were sanctioned after failing to comply with directives to renew their registrations.
The affected schools are to remain closed for seven days, effective from the date of the announcement. The board warned that any institution reopening without authorisation could face legal action.
Umar said the revalidation exercise aims to strengthen oversight of private schools, improve data collection and ensure compliance with approved educational standards.
He also warned proprietors against increasing school fees without approval, forcing parents to purchase supplies exclusively from school authorities and expelling pupils without informing their parents.
The board urged school owners to comply with regulations and cooperate with efforts to improve educational standards across Kano State.
