The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles during separate intelligence-led operations conducted between October 8 and 9.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operations involved officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division.
One of the recovered vehicles was a 2010 ash-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly diverted by a man identified as Sale Usman, popularly known as Dambu. The owner, Aminu Yahaya, had reportedly entrusted the vehicle to him to sell and remit the proceeds. Police later recovered the car in Katsina State from a buyer who said he had purchased it for ₦7.5 million.
In another operation, police arrested Abubakar Umar, 23, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, over the alleged theft of a white Toyota Hiace minibus. The vehicle, reported stolen from Singer Market in Kano on October 5, was traced to Mariri Magadawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The third case involved a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Adamu, from Potiskum, Yobe State. Police said he was intercepted while taking a Mitsubishi Canter truck, allegedly stolen from a garage in Potiskum, to be repainted in Kano.
The command said investigations were continuing and the suspects would be charged in court upon their conclusion. Police have also contacted their counterparts in Yobe State to help establish the truck’s rightful ownership.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved and urged residents to report suspicious activities and exercise caution when entrusting vehicles to others.
