Yemen’s internationally recognised government says its Coast Guard is working with allied forces to regain control of islands, coastal areas and maritime entry points along the Red Sea.

In a statement on Friday, the Coast Guard said the conflict with the Houthis required closer coordination between its personnel and other military formations.

The operation aims to protect maritime navigation through the Bab al Mandeb Strait, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, key routes for international shipping and trade.

Yemen’s Saba news agency reported that pro-government forces, including the Southern Giants Brigades and Homeland Shield Forces, were continuing an operation known as “Dawn of Yemen”, supported by air power from the government’s international allies.

The campaign aims to restore state institutions and retake territories still controlled by the Houthis, according to the agency.
