Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking following a difficult international window.
The three-time African champions, who were previously ranked 26th globally and fourth in Africa, have also slipped to sixth on the continent behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Ivory Coast.
Nigeria’s decline was largely influenced by their mixed results during the recent international fixtures.
The Super Eagles opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo, with George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring their first senior international goals.
However, Eric Chelle’s side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau, with Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló finding the net for the hosts.
Nigeria then returned to action with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod. Although the result earned the Eagles ranking points, it was not enough to recover from the damage caused by the Guinea-Bissau defeat.
Nigeria now have 1,567.97 points, leaving them sixth in Africa.
Morocco remain the continent’s highest-ranked team and have climbed to seventh globally with 1,805.34 points. Senegal are 18th worldwide, Egypt 25th, Algeria 28th and Ivory Coast 29th.
DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali and South Africa complete Africa’s top 10 at 40th, 43rd, 47th and 48th respectively in the global ranking.
Spain remain number one in the world, ahead of Argentina, France, England and Portugal.
