The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Ahmed Maccido, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Maccido was presented to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during a meeting in Abuja by former Sokoto State Governor and ADC leader in the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

His move followed his withdrawal from the PDP’s Sokoto North senatorial race. Maccido had earlier notified the PDP of his decision to withdraw from the contest but did not initially disclose the reason for his decision.

The development marks a further political realignment in Sokoto ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians moving between parties and alliances taking shape across the state.

The meeting with Atiku was attended by Tambuwal, ADC Deputy Director-General for Administration Yusuf Suleiman and other party leaders and stakeholders from Sokoto State.

Maccido, a former senator representing Sokoto North, is now expected to continue his political activities under the ADC platform.

The development comes amid wider changes within political parties as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify across Nigeria.
