Ikoyi Club 1938 has rounded off its week-long 88th anniversary celebrations with a colourful gala on the Main Lawn, concluding a programme held from September 28 to October 4 under the theme, “Legacy in Motion.”
The Lagos-based club opened the celebrations with a Media Connect event at its Rotunda, where it unveiled its anniversary logo and honoured prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment and media industries.
Among those present were Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Ireti Doyle, Sola Sobowale, Kunle Afolayan, Kate Henshaw, Elizabeth Benson, Ekpeyong Bassey and Muyiwa Ademola.
Club Chairman, Akinwunmi Akintola, who has been a member for over six decades, said the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the club’s heritage while preparing for the future.
He said generations of members had built and preserved the institution’s traditions, friendships and values, stressing that its legacy must continue to evolve.
Vice Chairman and Anniversary Committee Chairman, Bolaji Martins, described the participation of leading entertainers as a major honour for the club.
The anniversary programme featured sporting competitions across the club’s eight sections, including golf, lawn tennis, swimming, squash, badminton and table tennis, with outstanding members receiving trophies and awards.
Other activities included a colloquium on “The Ikoyi Club Story”, staff talent showcase, banking and finance day, art exhibition and auction, elders’ party, digital night, Ladies’ Night, real estate expo, health walk, Global Cultural Day, Foods of the World and Diversity Night.
The celebrations culminated in the anniversary gala featuring dining, live music and speeches by club leaders.
Ikoyi Club 1938 was established following the merger of the European Club and Lagos Club on September 29, 1938.
