Blackstone-backed data centre operator AirTrunk plans to invest $1 billion in its data centre campus in Japan, expanding infrastructure to meet growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
The investment will support the expansion and upgrading of AirTrunk’s Inzai campus in Chiba, near Tokyo. The more than 300-megawatt facility is expected to incorporate advanced liquid-cooling technology, which can help data centres manage the higher heat and power demands of AI computing.
AirTrunk said the project could support the deployment of large-scale AI workloads in Japan as customers seek greater computing capacity across the region. The company has also seen increased interest in Japanese data centre infrastructure amid growing demand for locally hosted digital services.
The planned investment underscores Japan’s growing role in Asia’s data centre market, with operators increasingly investing in power capacity, cooling systems and facilities designed to support the rapid expansion of AI and cloud services.
