The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five suspects in three separate operations over the alleged vandalism and theft of public infrastructure across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the vandalised facilities included a solar street light, road traffic signs and materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation.
According to the command, two suspects, Wisdom Nuhu and Moses Jonathan, were arrested on September 27, 2026, at a scrap dump in New Artisan Market while allegedly negotiating the sale of a stolen solar street light. The item was recovered, and police said the suspects confessed to vandalising it at Graceland Estate, Independence Layout.
In another operation on September 24, officers arrested 35-year-old Chukwudi Nwigbo along Abakaliki Road, GRA, after he and an accomplice were allegedly detected removing road traffic signs. Several vandalised signs were recovered, while the accomplice escaped.
The third operation took place on September 15, when police, working with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested Zubairu Hamanpedimso, 31, and Mohamed Adamu, 21. They were allegedly involved in vandalising and stealing materials belonging to the Enugu State Water Corporation. Iron materials, bolts and nuts were recovered from them.
Police said all five suspects had been arraigned and remanded in correctional custody pending further hearing. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices still at large.
