The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to commemorate this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers Day.

The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

According to the government, the decision is aimed at enabling teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark the occasion and celebrate their contributions to education and human capital development.

The government described teachers as key contributors to the state’s education system and said the gesture was part of its commitment to their welfare, dignity and professional development.

It added that the work-free day would provide teachers with an opportunity to reflect on developments in the education sector and strengthen unity within the teaching profession.

The state government congratulated teachers on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across Oyo State.
