The Federal Government, in partnership with the World Bank, has commenced a nationwide technical and vocational skills training programme targeting about 80,000 young Nigerians.
The programme is being implemented under the Innovation, Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills Technical and Vocational Education and Training (IDEAS-TVET) Project, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education.
In Abuja, 777 young Nigerians have commenced the latest phase of the programme, with beneficiaries drawn from seven accredited Training Service Providers in the Federal Capital Territory.
The trainees are receiving competency-based training in areas including digital and creative media, beauty and cosmetology, construction and building trades, agriculture and agribusiness.
The organisers said the programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and the practical skills demanded by employers, while creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship.
Training under the current cohort is aligned with National Skills Qualification standards and is expected to include industry internships and employment support after completion.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to expand access to technical and vocational education and equip young Nigerians with market-relevant skills that can improve their employability and capacity for self-employment.
