Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Babagana Zulum, has urged the Federal Government to revive oil exploration activities that stalled in Magumeri and Gubio Local Government Areas of the state.
Zulum made the call during the 13th regular meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum held at the Government House in Maiduguri. He said renewed exploration of the region’s oil resources could support economic development and complement ongoing reconstruction efforts.
The governor also welcomed efforts to revive exploration at the Kolmani Oil Field in Bauchi State, describing the project as an opportunity to create jobs, stimulate infrastructure development and expand the revenue base of states and host communities.
He urged the Federal Government to extend similar attention to Borno’s oilfields, particularly the areas where exploration activities had previously commenced but were later suspended.
According to Zulum, responsible exploration and development of natural resources could strengthen local economies, restore livelihoods and create sustainable opportunities for the region’s growing population.
The North-East governors also called for further exploration in prospective areas, including parts of Borno around the Lake Chad Basin, as part of broader efforts to diversify the regional economy.
The forum’s position comes amid renewed discussions on energy development and economic recovery across the North-East.
