Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alanamu Ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, drawn from various polling units across the ward, were formally received into the PDP during a rally held at the party’s Alanamu Ward secretariat on Saturday.
The new members said their decision was largely influenced by their loyalty to Senator Saliu Mustapha, who recently left the APC for the PDP after a prolonged disagreement within the ruling party. Mustapha has since secured the PDP ticket to contest the Kwara Central senatorial election in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, AbdulRazaq Adio said the group would continue to support Mustapha regardless of the political platform on which he chooses to pursue his political career.
The defectors also cited the leadership of former Senate President Bukola Saraki and the direction of the PDP in Kwara as factors behind their decision.
Receiving the new members, PDP leaders in Alanamu Ward described the development as an addition to the party’s grassroots structure and urged the defectors to participate actively in its activities.
The latest movement comes amid continued political realignments in Kwara as the APC and PDP strengthen their grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
