Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing insecurity, alleged injustice and concerns over the welfare of residents.
The lawmakers announced their decision during plenary, adding a new twist to the political realignment in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers include Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South, Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, Faruk Musa Dosara, Bashir Abubakar Masama, Muktaru Nasiru Kaura, Nasiru Abdullahi, Bashar Bello and Bashar Aliyu.
They said they could no longer remain in a political party which, in their view, had failed to adequately address the security challenges confronting Zamfara.
The lawmakers also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as political injustice and other issues affecting their constituents.
The development comes months after Governor Dauda Lawal and members of the Zamfara Assembly moved from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the APC, significantly altering the political structure of the state.
The latest resignation is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Zamfara as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
