The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45 year old man, Tony Ameachi, over an alleged N2.5 million fraud involving the purchase of deep freezers.
The suspect was arrested in the Ojo area of Lagos State on September 22, 2026, following an investigation that began in April.
According to the police, the complainant, a dealer in the purchase and resale of deep freezers, responded to an online advertisement on April 1 and transferred N2.5 million into a bank account bearing the name Abdulmoruf Abdulahi after negotiations.
The deep freezers were allegedly not delivered, while the person communicating with the complainant reportedly stopped responding to her messages.
The matter was reported at the Igbesa Police Division on April 4, leading detectives to commence an investigation.
Police said 25 ATM cards, 25 mobile phones and 16 SIM cards were recovered from Ameachi during his arrest.
The command alleged that the suspect obtained utility bills and newly registered SIM cards from associates to open bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were collected and allegedly used for fraudulent transactions.
The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. Police said he would be charged to court after the investigation.
