Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about the difficult recovery he faced after suffering a brain haemorrhage in 2018.

Ferguson, who was 76 at the time, underwent emergency surgery after falling seriously ill. He later revealed that he temporarily lost his voice and struggled to speak, describing the experience as frightening.

Recalling his recovery, Ferguson said his grandsons visited him when he could not speak. A therapist then helped him regain his voice through exercises that involved writing down the names of birds, animals and rivers.

Four months after the surgery, Ferguson returned to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play Wolves. He admitted he was terrified about returning to the stadium, but received a standing ovation from supporters alongside his wife, Cathy.

Now approaching 85, Ferguson said he feels quite good despite dealing with some minor injuries. He continues to attend Manchester United matches and has reflected on the experiences that shaped his remarkable football career.

Ferguson managed Manchester United for more than 26 years, winning 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies before retiring in 2013.
