Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale has paid tribute to late veteran actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, describing him as the person who trained and mentored her in the Nigerian movie industry.
Sobowale spoke during the Night of Tributes held in honour of Jacobs at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on Wednesday.
The actress said her success and recognition in the industry were shaped in part by the late actor, whom she described as a man of knowledge, wisdom and selflessness.
She recalled how Jacobs regularly corrected and advised her whenever she brought her concerns to him, saying his guidance helped shape her career.
Sobowale said people often praise her acting ability without knowing the people who contributed to her development, noting that Jacobs played a significant role in her journey.
Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. His death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs.
The veteran actor had a career spanning more than five decades across theatre, television and film. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before returning to Nigeria, where he became one of the country’s most recognised actors.
Several Nollywood stars, family members and colleagues gathered at the tribute event to celebrate his life and contribution to the entertainment industry.
