The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the death of Nollywood actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay Nwokafor.
Actress Nkechi Blessing announced his death on Wednesday, revealing that the actor was pronounced dead at a hospital in Badore, Lagos. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Blessing said she had spoken with Cjay at about 8am on the day of his death, only to receive news of his passing a few hours later.
In an emotional tribute, she expressed disbelief over the loss and said they still had plans together.
Blessing also cancelled the release of her movie, Egusi Ogbono, which was scheduled for 5pm on Wednesday. Cjay featured in the movie.
Other Nollywood colleagues, including Ruth Kadiri, Charles Born and Emeka Nwagbaraocha, also expressed shock and grief over the actor’s death.
Cjay began his professional acting career in 2021 and featured in several Nollywood productions, including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day To My Wedding, The Lies She Tell and What Time Left. He was from Awka, Anambra State, and was based in Lagos.
As of Thursday, further details about the circumstances of his death and funeral arrangements had not been announced.
