The fate of hundreds of Nigerians abducted by armed groups across the country remains uncertain, as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue those still in captivity.
The National Assembly has urged security agencies to step up rescue operations, expressing concern over the continued abduction of Nigerians, particularly in rural communities.
In Niger State, more than 20 people were reportedly abducted in Mariga Local Government Area, while recent attacks in Zamfara State saw more than 50 people taken hostage. Security teams have been deployed to search for the victims.
The situation has also remained concerning in Borno State, where 78 children and students were reportedly still in captivity more than four months after separate abductions. Families have continued to appeal for urgent rescue operations.
However, there have also been successful rescue operations. Troops recently rescued six kidnapped persons in Benue State, while two abducted students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, were released and placed under medical and psychological care.
