A flash flood has struck parts of Akaeze community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State again, leaving residents displaced and worsening losses from an earlier flooding disaster.
The latest incident comes days after severe flooding submerged homes, destroyed farmlands and forced dozens of families from their residences in the area. Reports from the affected communities indicate that several households remain vulnerable as floodwaters continue to threaten homes and livelihoods.
The earlier flooding, which followed heavy rainfall, affected communities including Amaegbu, Umuewodo Ndiachi Umobo and other parts of Akaeze. More than 130 families were reported displaced, while houses, crops, household belongings and other property were damaged.
The repeated flooding has increased pressure on emergency agencies and raised concerns over the area’s vulnerability to further incidents during the rainy season.
The Ebonyi State Government has directed the state emergency management agency to intensify assessments and coordinate relief efforts, while the National Emergency Management Agency is also expected to assess affected communities and support emergency operations.
Residents have appealed for urgent relief, temporary shelter and lasting measures to address the causes of the recurring floods, including improved drainage and access infrastructure.
