Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools for Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, strengthening efforts to build a domestic alternative to Nvidia’s technology ecosystem.
DeepSeek said it is open-sourcing programming infrastructure for Huawei’s Ascend platform, including computing and communication libraries. The collaboration also involves TileLang, a high-level programming language designed to make AI-chip programming more efficient and simplify code development.
The company said TileLang offers a simpler programming model than Nvidia’s CUDA and is intended to help establish an independent and self-controlled GPU software ecosystem in China.
Huawei has provided support for developing the programming infrastructure, while the two companies have jointly advanced a supernode system based on 128 Ascend 950 chips, aimed at improving computing and communication efficiency.
The partnership comes as Chinese technology companies deepen cooperation to reduce dependence on US-designed AI computing technologies amid restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports to China.
For Huawei, stronger software support could help expand adoption of its Ascend chips among AI developers. For DeepSeek, compatibility with domestic hardware provides another computing option as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow.
The development adds to China’s broader push to establish a more self-reliant artificial intelligence and semiconductor ecosystem.
