China’s leading memory-chip maker, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), has sued the U.S. Department of Defense over its designation as a company allegedly supporting China’s military.
CXMT says it has no ties to the Chinese military and that its DRAM chips are designed and sold exclusively for civilian and commercial applications, including smartphones, computers, servers and AI systems.
The company is seeking to have the designation overturned, arguing that the Pentagon’s decision was arbitrary, lacked sufficient evidence and violated its due-process rights. CXMT also says the listing has caused reputational and commercial damage.
The lawsuit comes amid rising U.S.-China tensions over semiconductor technology and follows similar legal action by other Chinese companies, including Alibaba.
CXMT, which reported an 874% increase in revenue in the first half of the year, is also seeking to expand into the U.S. market over the long term.
