Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two children in Scotland.
The 49-year-old was sentenced on Tuesday at the High Court in Edinburgh after being found guilty last month of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour involving a girl and a boy.
The offences occurred over separate periods. The girl was abused between 1993 and 1996, while the abuse of the boy took place between 2006 and 2010. Both victims were of primary-school age at the time.
Dott denied the allegations throughout his trial, but a jury convicted him following a five-day hearing at the High Court in Glasgow. The sentencing judge described the offences as a serious breach of trust and said Dott had deprived the victims of a significant part of their childhoods.
Dott won the World Snooker Championship in 2006 after defeating Peter Ebdon in the final. He also reached the championship final in 2004 and 2010.
Following his conviction, his membership of the sport’s governing body was permanently revoked and his name was removed from the World Snooker Tour’s Hall of Fame. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register.
