Stakeholders in Nigeria’s health sector have called for evidence driven strategies to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services across the country.
They made the call while stressing the need for policymakers, healthcare providers, researchers and development partners to rely on credible data and research when designing and implementing health interventions.
The stakeholders said evidence based planning would help identify gaps in healthcare delivery, improve the allocation of resources and ensure that interventions address the actual needs of communities.
They also highlighted the importance of strengthening primary healthcare centres, particularly in underserved rural and remote communities where access to medical services remains limited.
According to them, improving healthcare access requires greater investment in infrastructure, essential medicines, healthcare workers and digital health systems. They also urged authorities to strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure the impact of health programmes.
The stakeholders noted that collaboration between government agencies, private organisations, civil society groups and communities would be essential to achieving sustainable improvements in the health sector.
They further called for policies that would reduce financial barriers to healthcare and protect vulnerable populations from excessive out of pocket medical expenses.
The stakeholders maintained that regular collection and analysis of health data would enable decision makers to identify emerging challenges and adjust interventions accordingly.
They said a coordinated, evidence driven approach would ultimately contribute to better health outcomes and ensure that more Nigerians can access timely and quality healthcare services.
