The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged armed robbery and killing of Aishatu Salisu, the wife of a serving police officer, at Wuro Shie Quarters in Gombe metropolis.
The incident occurred on September 25 at about 4.35am when suspected armed robbers, reportedly carrying machetes and cutlasses, stormed the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, who is attached to the Safer Highway Patrol Team.
According to the police, the suspects attempted to steal Aishatu’s mobile phone. She reportedly raised an alarm during the attack, prompting one of the assailants to stab her with a machete before fleeing the scene.
The Pantami Divisional Patrol Team was immediately mobilised to the residence and rushed the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where she was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, the police commenced an investigation and intensified efforts to identify those responsible. Two suspects were subsequently arrested on September 26 through intelligence led operations.
The police said both suspects are residents of Wuro Shie Quarters. A knife was also recovered as an exhibit, while the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, directed that the investigation should be thorough and discreet to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies..
