Suspected bandits have abducted a newlywed couple and four other people along the Iyemero-Eruku Road near the border between Kwara and Kogi states.
The victims, identified as Funmilayo Bamidele and her husband, Reverend Abiodun David, were reportedly returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku when armed men intercepted their vehicle on Saturday.
The vehicle was said to have taken a back route after the driver chose to drop the best man and other members of the group in Iyamoye, Kogi State, instead of continuing along the planned Isanlu route.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo confirmed the abduction, saying security forces had launched a joint operation to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
According to the police, the vehicle used by the victims was later found parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.
Security operatives from Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states are participating in the search, reflecting the cross-border nature of the incident.
The latest abduction adds to security concerns along communities and major routes connecting the three states, where criminal gangs have previously targeted travellers.
