Former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has explained why he decided to join Italian Serie A club Udinese after leaving Real Madrid.
The 34-year-old Austria international signed a contract with Udinese until June 30, 2027, after becoming a free agent at the end of his Real Madrid contract.
Alaba said his decision was motivated by his desire to continue competing at the highest level and win more trophies. He stressed that he did not move to Udinese simply to wind down his career.
“I want to win again. I want to compete again and achieve something special once more. That is the mindset I’m bringing to Udinese,” Alaba said.
The experienced defender also said he wants to bring his leadership and experience to the Udinese dressing room, particularly by helping younger players.
Alaba joined Real Madrid in 2021 after a successful spell with Bayern Munich. During his career, he has won four Champions League titles, two with Bayern and two with Real Madrid.
He said he remains ambitious and believes he still has plenty to prove on the pitch.
“I’m still too ambitious for that, and I still strongly believe in what I can do on the pitch,” he added.
