The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria has approached the National Hospital Abuja for a medical partnership ahead of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy and Nigeria Ladies Open Championship scheduled to take place in Abuja.
LGAN president and chairperson of the tournaments’ Local Organising Committee, Lami Ahmed, visited the National Hospital Abuja on Wednesday to discuss medical support for the competitions.
Nigeria will host the All Africa Challenge Trophy from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, with about 30 African countries expected to participate. The Nigeria Ladies Open Championship will follow from November 7 to 10.
Ahmed said the large number of players, officials and other participants expected for the tournaments made comprehensive medical arrangements essential.
“We are requesting the National Hospital Abuja to serve as a principal medical partner for both championships,” she said.
As part of the proposed partnership, LGAN is seeking an equipped ambulance, qualified medical personnel and adequate emergency supplies throughout the competitions.
The association also wants clearly established evacuation and referral procedures to ensure participants requiring further medical attention can be transferred promptly.
Ahmed further requested the hospital’s involvement in the tournaments’ medical and safety committee to strengthen emergency preparedness and response during the events.
The management of National Hospital Abuja welcomed the proposal and indicated its readiness to review the request and work with the organisers on suitable emergency-response arrangements.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy is one of the continent’s major women’s amateur golf competitions and will bring golfers from across Africa to Nigeria.
The event is expected to provide Nigeria with an opportunity to showcase its ability to host major international golf competitions while giving African golfers a platform to compete at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.
With preparations continuing, LGAN is also working to ensure that adequate health and safety measures are in place ahead of the November championships.
