YouTube has unveiled a new range of artificial intelligence tools and shopping features as the video platform seeks to give creators more ways to produce content, engage audiences and generate revenue.
The updates were announced at the company’s annual Made on YouTube event in New York on Wednesday. New features for YouTube Studio include AI-assisted feedback on video drafts, automatically generated thumbnails tailored to individual channels and tools for testing up to three versions of a video.
YouTube is also integrating a Gemini-powered assistant into Shorts and YouTube Create to help creators edit clips, remove pauses and synchronise music. The company is testing an opt-in AI system that can moderate comments according to individual creators’ preferences and is expanding tools designed to protect creators from unauthorised use of their likeness.
On the commercial side, YouTube plans to expand its Shopping affiliate programme to 35 countries by the end of the year. More than 1.3 million creators are already enrolled, while creators in India and Brazil will soon be able to tag Amazon products directly.
The platform is also introducing personalised “Custom Feeds” for US users and expanding its Ask YouTube feature with shopping questions, product comparisons and voice commands for television users.
