Sierra Leone recovered from their opening-day defeat to Nigeria A by defeating Ghana by six wickets in the Nigeria Cricket Federation Quadrangular T20 Series at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos on Tuesday.
The Leone Stars restricted Ghana to 85/8 from their 20 overs before completing the chase with 11 balls remaining, reaching 86/4 in 18.1 overs.
The victory came 24 hours after Sierra Leone suffered a 33-run defeat to Nigeria A, while Ghana also entered the contest looking for their first points after losing by eight wickets to the senior Nigeria side on the opening day.
Sierra Leone’s chase was anchored by Abubakar Kamara, who scored 27 from 35 balls before being dismissed, while Yegbeh Jalloh contributed 19 from 37 deliveries.
Captain Lansana Lamin then provided the decisive late acceleration, smashing an unbeaten 14 from just five balls, including a four and a six. Eric Turay remained at the crease unbeaten on 11 as Sierra Leone crossed the finish line comfortably.
Ghana struggled to build a competitive total after choosing to bat first, finishing their 20 overs on 85/8 as Sierra Leone’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Richmond Baaleri claimed one wicket for 11 runs in 1.1 overs, while the rest of the Sierra Leone attack kept Ghana’s batsmen from establishing a strong partnership.
For Ghana, Vincent Ateak delivered an economical spell, returning figures of 0/8 from four overs, while Oscar Harvey claimed two wickets for 16 runs.
Kamara was rewarded for his contribution to the successful chase by being named Player of the Match.
The result leaves Sierra Leone with two points from their opening two matches, while Ghana remain without a point after suffering two defeats.
The quadrangular tournament features Nigeria, Nigeria A, Ghana and Sierra Leone and will run until September 27. Each team will face the others twice in the round-robin competition.
