A Russian drone attack on Kyiv early Wednesday killed one person and injured seven others, striking two petrol stations and other sites across the Ukrainian capital.
The attack occurred hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met US President Donald Trump in New York, where they discussed efforts to end the war and the possibility of a ceasefire covering energy-related targets.
Explosions were reported across Kyiv, with smoke rising over parts of the city. Ukrainian authorities said railway infrastructure was also damaged, while one railway worker was injured.
Ukrnafta, Ukraine’s state-owned oil company, said one of its petrol stations was hit. It was the sixth petrol station in Kyiv to come under attack in recent weeks, highlighting the increasing pressure on fuel and other economic infrastructure.
Reuters reported that Russia has increasingly used faster, high-flying jet-powered drones in attacks on Kyiv and surrounding areas, making them more difficult to intercept.
The latest strike came as Zelenskiy said Ukraine remained ready for an energy ceasefire if Russia stopped attacking Ukrainian infrastructure. The proposal follows weeks of intensified attacks on energy and fuel facilities by both sides.
