The New York Stock Exchange and crypto brokerage Blockchain.com are exploring a partnership that could allow investors to trade tokenised versions of US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds on blockchain technology.
The strategic collaboration reflects growing interest among traditional financial institutions in bringing securities onto blockchain-based systems, potentially allowing assets to be traded beyond conventional market hours.
Under the proposed arrangement, Blockchain.com users could gain access to tokenised US equities through the NYSE’s planned digital securities venue, subject to regulatory approvals. The companies have not yet specified the countries where the products would be offered.
The partnership also includes a data-sharing agreement. NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange will distribute Blockchain.com’s crypto market data and analytics, while Blockchain.com plans to incorporate NYSE data into its platform.
Tokenised stocks have attracted growing attention because blockchain technology could support round-the-clock trading and faster settlement. However, such products can differ from traditional shares in terms of ownership rights and investor protections. Recent US regulatory changes have opened a pathway for wider tokenised securities trading, increasing interest from financial and crypto firms.
