Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, has denied receiving N50 billion from President Bola Tinubu for the expansion of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan.
Makinde made the clarification on Tuesday at the Makinde/Daura 2027 Presidential Town Hall meeting in Katsina, following a claim by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal Government provided the funds for the airport project.
The governor said the claim was untrue, insisting that the airport upgrade was being funded entirely by the Oyo State Government.
Makinde stated that Oyo State had not received the alleged N50 billion from the Federal Government for the project.
The governor’s media aide, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, also said the Federal Government’s approval for the airport upgrade was granted on the condition that the project would be undertaken at no cost to the Federal Government.
The dispute follows Wike’s reported claim during a television programme that the Tinubu administration had provided financial support for the airport project.
