Russian defender Arsen Adamov has labelled Nigeria a “very strong” opponent as the Super Eagles prepare to face Russia in an international friendly during the October FIFA window.
Nigeria are scheduled to take on Russia at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on October 6, with Adamov expecting a competitive encounter between the two sides.
The 26-year-old right-back has previous experience against the Super Eagles, having featured for Russia in their 1-1 draw with Nigeria in June 2025.
Adamov also identified Iran as another formidable opponent for Russia during the international break, with the Russians set to face the Iranians before completing their schedule against Nigeria.
“This is not the first time we have played Iran and Nigeria, and these are very strong teams,” Adamov said, according to Russian outlet Sports.ru.
“There will be interesting matches for us and for the fans. Iran and Nigeria are very strong opponents.”
Russia have three matches lined up during the break. They will face Iran in Kazan on September 29, take on Namibia on October 3 and then welcome Nigeria to Nizhny Novgorod three days later.
Although Adamov admitted he knows little about Namibia, he expects the African side to provide another difficult challenge.
“The only thing is, I do not know anything about Namibia. African teams are strong. I think it will not be easy against them either,” he added.
Adamov has been a regular for Akhmat Grozny in the Russian Premier League this season, making nine appearances and registering an assist in their 4-1 victory over Rostov on August 22.
For Nigeria, the Russia friendly will come after their opening two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles will host Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau for their second qualifier on September 29.
Chelle has named separate squads for the AFCON qualifiers and the subsequent friendly against Russia, as Nigeria begin preparations for a demanding international window.
