The Nasdaq Composite touched a fresh intraday record on Tuesday as technology stocks regained momentum, helped by renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence and a retreat in oil prices.
The technology-heavy index rose 0.3% to 27,212.68, surpassing its previous intraday record of 27,190.21 reached on June 1. The move extended a strong rebound in technology shares after recent concerns about stretched AI valuations and the cost of developing advanced systems.
Investor sentiment was boosted by strong interest in Meta’s new AI assistant, Muse, which has helped revive confidence in demand for AI-related products and services. The optimism has also lifted major chipmakers and other companies linked to the sector.
Oil prices provided another source of support for markets, falling as signs emerged that supply disruptions in the Middle East could ease. Lower energy prices can reduce concerns about inflation and lessen pressure on businesses and consumers.
The latest gains come as investors continue to assess the outlook for interest rates, inflation and corporate earnings.
Attention is also turning to major diplomatic developments later this week, including a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which could influence trade and technology markets.
