The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Christopher Nathaniel, has pledged to introduce what he described as an agricultural revolution aimed at reducing poverty and creating jobs for young people if elected governor in 2027.
Nathaniel said Adamawa has enormous agricultural potential, with fertile land capable of producing crops in large quantities across different parts of the state. He argued that the sector could generate substantial wealth if the government moves beyond short-term agricultural programmes to focus on production, processing, packaging and export.
The candidate also highlighted the economic potential of the Mubi cattle market, saying greater investment in the livestock value chain could create jobs and increase internally generated revenue for the state.
He proposed the establishment of modern abattoirs, cold-storage facilities and livestock processing centres, as well as a major rice processing company, to ensure that more of the economic value generated from agricultural products remains within Adamawa.
Nathaniel further proposed the establishment of a cargo airport in Mubi, saying the facility could support the cattle market, attract investors and improve access to wider markets.
Beyond agriculture, the SDP candidate identified education, healthcare, skills development, youth empowerment and security as other areas he would prioritise if elected.
His promises form part of his campaign agenda ahead of the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election.
