The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged sweeping economic reforms and national restructuring as part of its agenda ahead of the 2027 elections. Party leaders say the reforms will focus on job creation, industrial growth, and decentralization of governance to empower states and local governments.
Speaking at a press briefing, ADC stalwart Dr. Mohammed Hashim warned that Nigeria must also confront rising security challenges, including the threat posed by ISIS-affiliated groups in West Africa. He cautioned that extremist networks continue to exploit poverty and weak governance, urging the government to strengthen intelligence and regional cooperation.
Hashim emphasized that economic reforms and restructuring cannot succeed without addressing insecurity. “We cannot build industries or attract investment if communities remain under siege,” he said, stressing the need for a holistic approach that combines economic empowerment with robust security measures.
Analysts note that ADC’s dual focus on restructuring and security reflects growing public demand for solutions to Nigeria’s twin crises of economic stagnation and insurgency. While restructuring has long been a contentious issue in national politics, the party insists it is essential for equitable development and stability.
Civil society groups have welcomed the call for reforms but urged caution, warning that restructuring must be inclusive and carefully managed to avoid deepening divisions. Security experts also agree that ISIS-linked threats in the Sahel region pose a serious risk, requiring Nigeria to work closely with ECOWAS and international partners.
