The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested approximately 300 persons during a raid on identified crime hotspots, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the Federal Capital Territory.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of efforts by the command to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and improve security across Abuja.
According to the police, officers raided several locations identified as potential criminal hideouts. Items recovered during the operation included knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
The suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling to determine their identities and establish whether they were involved in criminal activities. The police said those found to have committed offences would be charged to court, while those with no case to answer would be released after the screening process.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the command would sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing across the territory, particularly in locations suspected to be used as hideouts by criminals.
Sanusi also warned police officers participating in the operations against extortion, intimidation, harassment and unlawful demands for money, stressing that officers found engaging in misconduct would face disciplinary action.
He further urged residents to provide credible and timely information about suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts to the police.
