The Nasarawa State Command of the Federal Fire Service says it responded to more than 80 emergency calls across the state between January and September 2026, saving lives and protecting property worth millions of naira.
The Controller of the Federal Fire Service in Nasarawa, Eno Nwachukwu, disclosed this on Friday in Lafia during the service’s sensitisation and enlightenment campaign for the Ember months.
Nwachukwu said the command responded promptly to all the emergency calls received during the period, adding that early calls from members of the public helped firefighters prevent buildings from being completely destroyed.
She urged residents to avoid practices that could cause fire outbreaks, including overloading electrical sockets and leaving electrical appliances switched on when leaving their homes.
The campaign, themed “Fire Safety, Emergency Evacuation and Practical First Aid Fire Fighting Drill,” also featured practical demonstrations on how to use fire extinguishers and fire blankets.
The Zonal Controller of Zone P, Hadiza Saliu, said the Federal Fire Service was collaborating with other security agencies to improve emergency response and promote fire prevention across Nasarawa and Plateau states.
