2027: ‘They Are Politically Lazy’ — Wike Hits Back at APC Governors Over Coalition

Nyesom Wike, former Rivers State Governor and current Federal Capital Territory Minister, has lashed out at All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who have opposed the proposed Rainbow Coalition, branding them “politically lazy” and resistant to innovation.

The coalition, designed to unite politicians across party lines ahead of the 2027 elections, has been met with skepticism from several APC governors who argue it could dilute party cohesion. Wike, however, insists that the coalition represents a bold step toward inclusivity and national stability.

Speaking in Abuja, Wike accused the governors of clinging to outdated political strategies. “They are politically lazy. They fear competition and fresh ideas. Nigeria needs leaders who can think beyond party boundaries,” he said.

Analysts note that Wike’s remarks intensify the ongoing rift within the ruling party. While Tinubu’s camp views the coalition as a strategic expansion, governors worry it could weaken their grassroots influence. Wike’s intervention adds fuel to the debate, positioning him as a vocal advocate for the coalition’s success.

Supporters of the Rainbow Coalition argue that Nigeria’s fragmented political environment requires broad alliances to tackle insecurity, economic challenges, and governance issues. They believe Wike’s stance could attract opposition figures and civil society groups into the fold, reshaping the 2027 electoral landscape.

Opponents, however, maintain that the coalition risks destabilizing APC from within. They warn that inviting external actors could create internal rivalries, weaken loyalty, and ultimately fracture the party.

Observers believe the clash between Wike and APC governors underscores the high stakes of the 2027 elections. The Rainbow Coalition, whether embraced or rejected, will significantly influence Nigeria’s political trajectory.
