Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged the state government’s support for the speedy completion of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company’s Lot 18 transmission project in the state.
The governor said the state was ready to work with relevant federal agencies and other stakeholders to address challenges that could delay the completion of the project, stressing the importance of reliable electricity infrastructure to the state’s economic development.
The NIPP Lot 18 transmission project is expected to strengthen electricity transmission capacity in Akwa Ibom and improve the stability of power supply across communities connected to the network.
Eno said the state government would continue to provide the necessary cooperation to ensure that critical power infrastructure projects were not stalled by avoidable administrative, security or right of way challenges.
He noted that improved electricity supply remained essential to the growth of businesses, expansion of industries and delivery of essential services, particularly as the state seeks to attract more investment.
The governor also emphasised the need for closer collaboration between the state government, the transmission authorities, contractors and host communities to ensure that work on the project progresses without unnecessary setbacks.
According to him, projects that expand and strengthen the power transmission network have a direct impact on economic activity because businesses depend heavily on dependable electricity to reduce operating costs and improve productivity.
The state government’s intervention is expected to help address issues surrounding the project and create a more conducive environment for contractors and technical teams working on the transmission infrastructure.
Eno reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting infrastructure capable of unlocking the economic potential of Akwa Ibom, particularly in areas of electricity, transportation, industrial development and investment.
The governor said the state would continue to pursue partnerships with federal institutions and private sector stakeholders where such cooperation could accelerate development and improve the quality of life of residents.
The completion of the Lot 18 project is also expected to strengthen the wider electricity network in the Niger Delta and provide additional capacity for the transmission of power generated within the region.
Stakeholders have continued to identify inadequate transmission infrastructure as one of the major challenges affecting Nigeria’s electricity sector, despite efforts to increase generation capacity.
For Akwa Ibom, the completion of the project could provide additional support for industrial and commercial activities while improving electricity access for communities within the affected areas.
The governor therefore urged all stakeholders connected to the project to maintain close coordination and ensure that outstanding issues were resolved promptly so that construction could proceed to completion.
Eno assured that the state government would remain available to support efforts aimed at delivering the project and other critical infrastructure capable of strengthening the state’s economy.
