The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to investigate allegations linking Bauchi South Senator Shehu Buba Umar to banditry and terrorism.

The council made the demand amid renewed allegations concerning the senator, urging the relevant security agencies to clarify their dealings and engagements with him.

In a statement, the council called for a thorough and independent investigation, with the findings made public where legally and security-wise possible.

It said the senator had previously engaged with security institutions as part of efforts to support government initiatives aimed at tackling terrorism and banditry.

The council maintained that such engagements, to its knowledge, were legitimate, but said the security agencies should provide clarification to address concerns arising from the allegations.

It also cautioned against using unverified claims for political purposes or character assassination, stressing the importance of credible investigations in matters involving national security.
