The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has warned that failures within the commission’s administrative chain could trigger a crisis during the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan stressed the need for INEC officials at all levels to remain committed to their responsibilities, warning that weaknesses in the commission’s internal processes could undermine the credibility and smooth conduct of the elections.
He urged staff to maintain professionalism, accountability and effective coordination while carrying out their duties, particularly as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify.
The INEC chairman said the commission must identify and address administrative gaps early to prevent avoidable challenges that could affect the electoral process and public confidence in the elections.
