Australia is proposing new rules that would give social media users greater control over algorithm-driven feeds, allowing them to choose how content is recommended and presented on their platforms.
Under the proposed reforms, users aged 16 and over could choose between personalised feeds powered by recommendation algorithms and feeds focused on content from accounts they actively follow. The government says the move is designed to give users more control over their online experience.
The measures are part of Australia’s broader digital safety reforms aimed at increasing accountability among major technology platforms. Companies that fail to meet their obligations could face significant penalties and stronger regulatory scrutiny.
