Fiorentina have officially signed Portuguese attacker Pedro Gonçalves from Sporting CP on transfer deadline day, completing a late move that could eventually be worth €25 million.

The 28 year old, popularly known as Pote, joins the Italian club on an initial season long loan. Fiorentina will pay Sporting €2.5 million for the loan, while the agreement includes a €22.5 million option to buy.

The purchase clause can become mandatory if certain sporting conditions are achieved during the season, meaning the overall value of the operation could reach €25 million.

Gonçalves arrives in Florence after six seasons with Sporting, where he established himself as one of the club’s most productive attacking players. He joined the Portuguese side from Famalicão in 2020 and quickly became an important figure in the team’s attacking setup.

During his time at Sporting, the versatile forward helped the club win several domestic honours and became particularly renowned for his goalscoring ability from attacking midfield and wide positions.

Gonçalves can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder or second striker, giving Fiorentina manager Stefano Pioli another versatile option in the final third.

His arrival comes after Fiorentina allowed Albert Gudmundsson to leave for Lazio on loan, creating room for the Portuguese international within the squad.

Fiorentina moved quickly to complete the deal during the final hours of the Italian transfer window, with Gonçalves completing his medical in Florence before the transfer was officially announced.

The move also brings an end to Gonçalves’ long association with Sporting. He leaves the Lisbon club after making 239 appearances, scoring 97 goals and providing 58 assists across competitions.

His performances in Portugal also earned him international recognition. Gonçalves has won four senior caps for Portugal and remains part of the country’s pool of attacking players.

Fiorentina will now hope that his creativity and goalscoring record can help strengthen their attacking options in Serie A. The club has been particularly active during the final stages of the transfer window as it reshapes its squad for the new campaign.

For Sporting, the agreement provides an immediate €2.5 million loan fee while retaining the possibility of a substantial permanent transfer should the conditions for the purchase clause be met.

Gonçalves will now begin a new chapter in Italy after establishing himself as one of Sporting’s key players over the past six years.
