Two people were killed in an attack at a school in Gosen Neu Zittau, a town southeast of Berlin, on Thursday, with one suspect detained, local media reported.
According to Maerkische Allgemeine, one of the victims was an 18 year old woman who attended the school. The newspaper reported that the suspected attacker was believed to be her 19-year-old former boyfriend.
A 30 year old man was also killed while reportedly trying to intervene and stop the attack, the newspaper said. Berliner Zeitung separately reported that two other people were injured.
Police said on X that one suspect had been detained and that officers were securing the crime scene. Authorities did not immediately provide further details about the circumstances of the attack or a possible motive.
Police could not immediately be reached by telephone and did not respond to an emailed request for comment.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish what happened and determine the full circumstances surrounding the killings.
